This book focuses on Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) for adolescents. The book provides an overview of the development of adolescence and MBT’s methods for individual, family and group treatment.
A particularly interesting chapter covers how to work with adolescents who identify as LGBTQ+ and their parents. This chapter describes the importance of showing respect for the young person’s identity. In addition, it demonstrates how a mentalizing approach can promote recognition of different perspectives within a family and encourage mutual curiosity about mental states.
